The night before the performance, they all met at Kristi's house to have supper, and just relax and be mentally prepared for the big day. Their focus and drive was apparent...I was overcome with how happy and excited I was to be a part of this with them. To push them to achieve more, do more, be more.
There were 5 seniors on this squad who will be missed after they graduate. They were the glue that held the rest of the team together. These girls were a family. The kind words they said to their teammates to pump them up is something I will probably never experience again. It was a special group of girls, all with different strengths and weakness, that worked together, and made it happen.
Here is a little dialogue from what we were saying right before we found out we won...
Kristi: You girls be happy with whatever we get, you did what you had to do, and that is all that matters.
Molly: Be proud of what you have accomplished, but also be humble. This is your moment.
Announcer: Your class 2A State Runners up are.......Des Moines Christian!
N-P Huskies: They gripped the girls hands harder as they sat in a circle. They looked around at each other with their mouths open, tears in their eyes, hands shaking. They knew...they either nailed it and won state or didn't place. This was the moment they had all been waiting for....
Announcer: And finally, your 2A State Champions are.......Nashua-Plainfield!!!!!
N-P Huskies: We were on our feet screaming, yelling, crying, laughing, hugging, and amazed by what we had just heard. They did this...they made their dreams come true. All the hard work, the sweat, the blood, the tears, all into 2 minutes and 30 seconds. They showed the judges that N-P is NOT to be underestimated. They were champions.
Today, they get to wear their medals down the hallways in the high school and feel what it truly means to be a State Champion. This afternoon they will be part of an assembly to present their hard earned 1st place trophy to the school. This is their moment to shine, to cherish, to remember what they did to get to where they are. To be proud of the goal they have accomplished.
Looking back, I remember the feeling of winning state when I was a junior in high school...it was amazing...no words can explain how you feel, to be part of a team, a winning, and deserving team.
I am blessed and fortunate to be a coach to these girls. They are teachers to me....to never give up and always shoot for #1.
Way to go Husky Cheerleaders! You are the champions!!!!!!
Saturday was SUCH an AMAZING day! I hear great things about you and your coaching non-stop. All the girls just completely adore you. I really don't think they would have done as amazing as they did this season without you. Congrats!!! :)
